The Children of Kifaru parish did not have good opportunities to grow up to their potentialities. The people of Kifaru wanted to do something special for the children. So the idea of starting a children home came up. To realize this idea some donors from Italy and other parts of the world came up. The major support came from the Italian donors. So the name RUPERT home was given as per their wish.
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me … theirs is the Kingdom of God”.
A Home of Hope and Love
RUPERT Children’s Home is started with the help of some donors from Italy. The Children’s home is named RUPERT as per the request of the donor. Mrs. Marilena, our donor, adopted a son named Rupert from Mangalore (Ullal) India. Rupert was born on 27th February, 1987. When he was one year baby, Rupert was taken to Italy by Mrs. Marilena. Rupert grew in Marilena’s family and studied. As a young boy he met with an accident and died on 12th June, 2004, at the age of 17. As Marilena herself, recalls Rupert was a calm, silent and shy boy. But he was sweet and very generous boy. He was good in studies and he was very much interested in agriculture, so he studied in Agricultural school. He was studying second grade high school (Form 6) when he died. His hobbies were photography and fishing.
After the death of RUPERT, Marilena along with her friends started an association in Italy to help the poor children for education. They are helping many children. They were helping in India many places. Now they have started to help here in Kifaru.

The name Rupert means SHINING, the project aims to make the children SHINE and come up with excellence.

Family of Families
The best place for a child to grow is at home. A children’s home is only an arrangement to provide better educational opportunities for deprived children. The management strives to make the children’s home a true "home away from home."The environment is designed to ensure that children feel at home while also benefiting from their close connection with priests, religious leaders, and the church. Their stay should help them grow in their love for Jesus, the Church, and religious life. To create a family-like atmosphere, we have divided the children into three families of boys and three families of girls. Each family is guided by a dedicated staff member who serves as an animator and family head. Each family has:
- A separate room in the dormitory
- Individual washrooms
- A designated dining space to eat together
Additionally, the weekly timetable includes family prayer time, meetings, and gatherings to strengthen bonds and foster a sense of belonging.
INTEGRAL FORMATION
Counseling and Guidance - These children come from challenging situations and need a fatherly and motherly touch. Therefore, we have a trained religious sister as a full-time counselor for the children.
Spiritual Formation - To facilitate spiritual growth, we arrange morning prayers, evening prayers, the Rosary, Gospel reading, and daily Mass. Children are encouraged to bring and use the Bible during Mass and prayers. Weekly BCC Gospel-sharing prayers, Holy Childhood prayers, and the formation of Altar Servers Sodality/Marian Sodality are also part of their spiritual journey. Additionally, confessions and spiritual inputs are provided once a month.
Intellectual Development - We provide a conducive study environment and offer extra help to students who struggle academically. Teachers give personal attention to each child, and a systematic study monitoring process is in place.
Fostering Vocations - The children’s home provides a valuable opportunity to foster vocations among the students.
Leadership Development - Leadership skills are nurtured through weekly news and speech presentations, a monthly cultural evening, and assigning group responsibilities. Group evaluations and grading encourage creativity and active participation.
Discipline - A structured discipline system is in place to teach good manners and civic responsibility, ensuring children grow into responsible and well-mannered individuals.
